There are so many reasons to love Berlin, but I’ll just name a few that keep me coming back.
The street art
The food [yes, it deserves to be mentioned twice – did you see that burger?]
The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe [aka BVG]
Let me spend a minute on the BVG. Being from a city I appreciate public transport. And public transport that makes exploring easier is my favorite thing in a new city. Now the first time I was in Berlin I had my very own city guide in Myrna [the coolest chic in Berlin]. This time I was discovering new areas on my own. I was staying in Wedding and Kreuzberg and checking out everywhere in between. Considering I’m at the very early stages of learning German and only had the BVG maps in the stations to go by, I managed to meet new people and find new bars and restaurants all on my own. There was even one night where everyone I knew in the city was away and I almost ended up in a sex club in a strange neighborhood and I still managed to get home without too much effort.
As a direct result of my first visit to Berlin in 2013, Germany made it onto my list of favorite countries. As a result of my second visit, where I got to experience even more cities and meet even more amazing Germans, it has moved its way up to my second favorite country in the world [so far]. And I truly believe I would move to Germany…if only it was located about 8000km southwest 🙂
