central america | nicaragua
my first time in nicaragua was 8 years ago and lasted less than two weeks. it was more than enough time to know i wanted to return. six months later i did, but again the visit was brief. i felt the pull for the first time in my life that i was meant to be in nica. i felt like i was home, something i had never experienced in all my residences across the us.
of course i had no idea how to make it a reality, so i continued along in my life in the US for 6 years. then an opportunity arose for me to return to work and live for 3 months, possibly longer. i wanted to jump at the chance, but there were things that caused me to hesitate. eventually, i left for playa maderas thinking i would not be back to the states for a while.
however, the true opportunity was not in playa maderas, but in a community just one beach south – playa marsella. after returning to the us for 11 months to experience life in ashland, oregon and complete another us tour, i moved to playa marsella to embrace the life that awaited me.
i’ve met some amazing travellers as they passed through as well as beautiful people who have made nica their home. i was able to visit with the family who first hosted me all those years ago. the people who taught me my first spanish words and opened their arms to me as family, welcomed me back as though we had seen each other just days earlier.
nicaragua will always be home to me..
